Altimetric and
pedological
research has revealed that species composition and structure of
flora and
fauna of the
ecosystems of the
Atlantic
Rainforest /
(
Mata Atlântica)
varies significantly according to
soil
and
climate
conditions in different altitudes.
For a better analysis and classification of species distribution and composition,
it was therefore necessary to divide the ecosystems of this
biome
in finer subunits, so-called altitudinal zones.
Dependent on altitude and latitude, the Brazilian Institute for Geography and Statistik
(
IBGE) determined
the following classification:
